Karin Schiemenz, MS, LPC-Associate, NCC (supervised by Thomas B. Mitchell, MA, LPC-S)

Karin loves engaging people from all walks of life. She has been intensely curious about “how people work” from childhood, and has devoted the majority of her formal and informal education to deepening her understanding of human functioning. However, the book-learning does not compare to the privilege she experiences when sitting one-on-one with another human and being trusted to hold their individual story with care and compassion.

Having experienced challenging transitions and identity shifts that take place throughout life, Karin’s heart is especially aimed at supporting individuals as they navigate their own life-transitions – external and internal. She wholeheartedly believes in the positive ripple effect that occurs in the world and through generations when one person actively pursues healing and growth. Her goal is to support each of her clients as they embark on this process by helping them find their unique pathway to wholeness.

Karin takes a systems theory approach to her work with clients, and pulls from CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, and attachment-based therapies. For her work with perinatal clients, specifically, she has been trained in The Art of Holding Perinatal Women in Distress™. Her clinical interests include depression, anxiety, perinatal mood disorders, trauma, abuse, somatic awareness, women’s issues, gender dynamics, intimate relationships, human sexuality, parenting challenges, and attachment issues.

Karin graduated in 2024 with her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of St. Thomas – Houston. Prior to transitioning into the mental health field, her primary focus had been at home, raising her four children. When she is not working you can find her shuffling her kids from here to there, listening to podcasts, and forgetting to water her plants in the Houston heat.
